We love artists at Multiverse, and there are several ways for artists to get involved. Apply to display original works in the juried Multiverse Art Expo, sell your art at a table in the Dealers’ Room or Creators’ Alley, or create art for official Multiverse publications! Read on for more details on how you can get involved. If you’d like to help our team make the Art Expo a truly exceptional experience for artists and fans, click here to fill out the volunteer application.

The Multiverse Art Expo is a juried exhibition showcasing some of the best genre-related artists and artwork anywhere. We believe that great art is an essential part of the science fiction & fantasy genre, and we believe artists should be celebrated for their contributions in a fun exhibition environment that fosters connection with genre fans.

Here is some basic information on the Multiverse Art Expo:

  • Display Space: There will be hanging panels, as well as table space for 3D pieces, sculptures, and pieces that do not hang very well. Floor space may also be made available by special request. Display space is assigned by the Multiverse Team after review of submitted applications. Art does not have to be for sale to be displayed, but it is encouraged.

  • Panel Fees: The fee for selected artists to display and sell in the 2019 Multiverse Art Expo is $25 per 4-foot-by-4-foot hanging panel. The same fee applies to a horizontal display space (table or floor) for displaying 3D art. If you are selected to display your work in the Art Expo, we will email you instructions for purchasing up to 3 panels. Filling out the application does not obligate you to pay.

  • Auction Format: The Art Expo silent auction runs from the opening of the Art Expo on the Friday of the convention to closing of the Expo on Saturday Evening. Bidding closes when the Art Expo closes at 7:00pm on Saturday night, with the highest bid on each piece at closing time winning. Artists will set a starting bid for each piece, and bids lower than the starting bid will be considered invalid.

  • Quick Sale: Multiverse members may buy pieces at the Quick Sale price. This is a “Buy-It-Now” option that shortcuts the bidding process and sells the item immediately at the pre-set price point.

  • Sunday Sale: Any pieces that are not sold prior to Sunday can optionally be available for Sunday sale at a fixed (typically reduced) price.

  • Print Sales: Artists displaying their original work in the 2019 Art Expo will have the option to sell prints in the Art Expo space. If desired, artists will be provided with a small stand or table to place a small- to medium-sized box of prints.

  • Sales Logistics and Artist Payout: Sales of original art and prints will be managed by Multiverse staff. Multiverse will collect and pay sales tax on all art sales. Credit card processing fees (typically around 3%) will be deducted from the artist’s final payout. It is our goal to pay artists for sales at the close of the convention; if we are unable to accomplish this for some reason, we will process payouts as expeditiously as possible.

  • Mail-In: We do accept artwork mailed in from artists selected for the Art Expo who are unable to bring it to us in person, such as artists from out of state. Artists who mail art for display are responsible for all shipping (both ways) and associated costs, including insurance.

  • How to Apply: Click the button below and fill out the application. Space in the Multiverse Art Expo is limited, so unfortunately we cannot approve everyone who applies for this year. If you are not selected, please consider one of the other options described below, and we encourage you to apply again next year!

Artists, including those displayed in the Art Expo, may also sell prints of their work or similar products at a Dealers Room table. If you are interested in purchasing a Dealers Room table, please click here to learn more about the Dealers Room (including table pricing) or go directly to the Dealers Room application.

We are always happy to receive artwork submissions for our official Multiverse publications! To be considered for our print and digital publications:

  • Artwork should be family friendly – “PG” content only, no “R” rated or adult content.

  • Artwork should be recognizably related to Multiverse convention in some way.

  • We prefer artwork that does something clever in its presentation beyond simply being portraiture, or being of the “clip art” variety featuring spaceships and dragons.

Multiverse does NOT pay for artwork, but if we use your art we will credit you as the artist appropriately. DO NOT send original artwork to Multiverse. Contact Multiverse about sending a scan or digital art file.
